DEAR PASTOR—
First of all, thanks for doing what you do.
Most pastors I know don’t get thanked all that much, so truly—from one pastor to another—thank you for what you do to build the Kingdom of God.
Second, as you likely know, the Church in America has been on a rapid decline for years. Hundreds of thousands of people are flocking out of churches instead of into churches.
While many churches do a great job with their Bible teaching and worship, most pastors simply don’t have a strategy to make disciples of Jesus Christ based on the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19.
Part of the reason why so few leaders are making disciples is due to the fact that many church leaders have adopted a diluted definition of what a disciple truly is. When the Apostle Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ," (1 Corinthians 11:1), his challenge provided one of the best examples of true discipleship from the entire Bible.
A true disciple of Jesus follows the example of Christ. Jesus Himself challenged His disciples to drop their nets and follow Him. If we are going to truly follow His example, we must be willing to not only follow Jesus ourselves, but we must also be willing to invite others to drop their nets and follow us as we follow Christ.
In other words, a real disciple is not just someone who is learning more about Jesus, but a true disciple is someone who is following Christ AND inviting others to do the same.
In short, disciples of Jesus are those who make disciples of Jesus.
Most of us just hope that we are making disciples without having an actual strategy to make disciples or any way to measure our effectiveness. Marksman is a tool to help you and other men on your team or in your community reach men and equip them. When we reach the men, we also reach the women and children through the leadership of the men in their homes.
When I personally rolled out Marksman in my own church, we began to see exponential growth within just a few months. In 2019, we became the 92nd fastest growing church in the United States according to Outreach Magazine. By 2024, we were #18 on the same list. In 2025, at one point we were experiencing 96% year-over-year growth.
Why such rapid growth?
I would say the main driver of our growth has not been my teaching or our incredible worship team. I really believe we have been experiencing such incredible growth as a direct result of an army of men who have stepped up in their leadership and are reaching other men. Dads are reaching sons, brothers are reaching brothers, uncles are reaching nephews, employees are reaching bosses, and neighbors are reaching neighbors.
Many pastors dream about their congregation members inviting other people to church, but without an actual strategy, it’s only likely to happen sporadically here and there. Marksman not only shares the good news of the Gospel with men, but it also challenges men to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and empowers them to invite other men to join them on their journey.
Similar to the Apostle Paul’s mentorship to Timothy, Marksman provides a blueprint for men to reach men and mentor them in the process. Mentorship and discipleship won’t just happen by chance or because people happen to sit in the pews in your church. Discipleship must take place by strategic intentionality.
Marksman is not intended to steal men from one church and add them to another. Marksman is intended to be utilized as a resource to help strengthen the local church by strengthening the men in the local church.
Some pastors are using Marksman to revitalize their church.
Some pastors are using Marksman to build a launch team for their church that hasn’t even started yet.
Some pastors are using Marksman because they are tired of the old lame methods of attempting to reach men with ineffective and boring pancake breakfasts. Let’s be real—pancake breakfasts aren’t going to change the world.
Marksman might be perfect for your church if you would like to:
Spark a fire in your church
Grow your congregation
Increase your discipleship
Empower your men to be godly leaders who actually lead
Leave the Saturday pancake breakfast behind once and for all
Let me emphasize the fact that Marksman is not just a Bible study. There are plenty of Bible studies you can use for a few weeks at a time to dive into God’s Word. While Marksman indeed dives deep into God’s Word, Marksman is not just a Bible study. Rather, it is a comprehensive 3-part strategy that is intended to be utilized over and over at your church in perpetuity.
If you are at all intrigued with the idea of Marksman, let’s have a discussion about how Marksman might be beneficial to your congregation. All you need is a willing heart and a few good men who might help you start Marksman at your church. We will train your team and equip them on how to use Marksman to start making disciples in your church like never before.
